What is a point worth?

Updated October 22, 2026

A point has no fixed value. It depends on what you redeem it for. To compare cards fairly, findmymiles uses one reference value per program.

How to calculate it

Value per point = (cash price of the flight − taxes and fees on the award ticket) ÷ points required

For example, if a flight costs A$900 in cash, or 30,000 points plus A$90 in taxes, each point is worth 2.7¢.

When the value goes up or down

  • Long-haul and premium-cabin flights tend to give more value per mile.
  • In peak season, cash fares rise, so the same miles can be worth more.
  • Using miles for gift cards or shopping usually gives less value than flights.
